Instagram has a massive amount of users, over 500 million, and the platform is continually growing – placing the social network in third after Facebook and YouTube. This huge audience is the perfect opportunity for your business to tap into! Whether or not you currently use other social media networks to advertise your brand, Instagram is one of those platforms that you need to take advantage of. People are much more likely to engage with content on Instagram than Facebook or Twitter, which is great news if you are interested in growing your business using the platform.
If you really want to be successful with Instagram you have to be able to reach more people, which requires you to have a strategy set in place. Luckily, it isn’t as hard as it sounds. These three marketing tips will help you grow your audience (and your brand) in no time. Plus, it won’t even cost you a penny.
CROSS-PROMOTE AND SHARE YOUR PHOTOS
While I’m not a huge fan of auto-sharing my Instagram posts on Facebook and Twitter, I do like the idea of cross-promoting my photos on the other platforms. I recommend manually posting your Instagram photos across your other social networks, and then inviting people to follow you on Instagram. If people already like your brand, they will feel more inclined to connect with you through another platform. You’d be surprised at how fast you can grow your following through cross-promoting.
OPTIMIZE YOUR POSTING FREQUENCY AND BE CONSISTENT
Determining how often to post and when to post is more about testing out what works best for your audience, instead of following a “magic formula”. If you’ve already transferred your Instagram account to a business account, you’ll be able to keep track of your analytics. These statistics are perfect for helping you narrow down the optimal time to share. If you are interested in a paid option, Iconosquare can provide you with more in-depth analytics related to your account.
While posting several times a day can work for some brands, you’ll need to decide if such a strategy will work for you. Normally, I recommend posting 1-2 times per day. Maintaining a consistent posting schedule will be a much more effective way of bringing traffic to your account, rather than overwhelming people with 10 posts a day. Hootsuite or Buffer are great free options that you can use for scheduling out your posts.
DON’T BE AFRAID OF HASHTAGS
What in the world are hashtags? While hashtags may seem like a foreign language, they actually aren’t as complicated as we make them out to be. Hashtags are used to organize posts of similar content to make them easier for people to search for. If you sell shoes and someone is searching for shoes, they’ll easily be able to find your profile if you tag “shoes” in your posts. The best part about hashtags is that Instagram allows you to use up to 30 in one post. I would recommend including them in a comment instead of in your caption, as they can be distracting. Don’t worry about getting “carried away” with hashtags, as they can help more people find your profile.
Another fun and engaging way to use hashtags is to create a hashtag unique to your brand. Your followers can use this hashtag when they share your products, and then you can share those photos on your own feed – free advertising. Using hashtags is perhaps one of the easiest steps you can take to bring more traffic to your Instagram.
If you are using Instagram and don’t seem to be making a dent in your followers or you haven’t even joined the photo-sharing world yet, these tips will help you become a pro at Instagram.
