If you’re an entrepreneur, you know the value of stretching your capital to do more for you. You should also know that you can stretch your time as much as you stretch your money. By simplifying your personal life in a few different ways, you can find more hours in the day, decrease your stress, get more done, and find more room in your budget. Here are a few of the best tips we’ve found (and used) for simplifying your life to make your business more successful.

Studies have shown that a cluttered environment is distracting and can increase stress. If you’re like a lot of entrepreneurs, you work from home at least part of the time. If your home is cluttered, you’re going to be constantly thinking about the things you should be doing to clean it up and make it more livable instead of thinking about what you should be doing to improve your business.

Think about the environment you’ve created in your home office. Are there papers stacked up everywhere? Is your home office more of a catchall storage room than an office? If so, you could be sabotaging yourself. Take some time to declutter your home and make it a more work-friendly place.

Entrepreneurs are notorious for keeping long hours and weird schedules, so it can be difficult to find time to cook healthy meals for yourself and your family. The alternative for a lot of people is fast food, but that’s not exactly healthy. Instead, take a couple of hours on Sunday and prepare some healthy lunches and dinners for the whole week. Put them in the refrigerator or freezer, and you’ll have meals that are healthy and ready to go whenever you need them.

If you conduct a lot of your business online, then you’re going to be checking your email throughout the day. This is how a lot of small business owners communicate with their employees and clients alike, so when you see a new message pop up on your phone or computer, you’ll almost automatically click or swipe to check it.

When you do this, how often do you find yourself sighing and rolling your eyes as you delete a piece of spam from some mailing list you signed up for when you weren’t really paying attention? Take some time to unsubscribe from these mailing lists and increase the security on your spam filters. This way you’ll get less junk mail, and you’ll have fewer interruptions when you’re working.

Finally, think about your “needs” versus your “wants.” Do you really need premium cable or would you be better served with a cheaper option? Do you need to rent a dedicated office at a separate location or will your home office work for you for the moment? Do you need a personal assistant or can you get the services you actually need through a virtual assistant and a few helpful apps?

When you simplify your needs, you’ll find that you have more capital to get your business up and running, and you’ll have more time and energy to get important tasks done, too.

Keep all of these tips in mind as you work toward launching your business and as you manage and grow it throughout the coming months and years. The simpler you make your life, the more easily you’ll find success with your business.
